Holiday Toy Drive 2007
Each winter the BCSO gives back to our community by raising funds for underprivileged children,
to provide them with presents during the holiday season. As our organization grows, so does our
ability to provide more children with a little more sparkle for the season.
Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair 2007
A group of BCSO students volunteered to judge in the annual Galveston County Science and Engineering Fair. This is a high-school level science fair representing the students of Galveston county, and organized in part by TAMU.
Galveston Beach Cleanup 2007
The GSO and BCSO participated in a local, Saturday morning Beach Cleanup event. A fun group of eager volunteers showed up bright and early to clean up a section of Galveston's East Beach. Boy, did it need it!
Halloween 2007
BCSO's Social planning committee made their debut this year with the Halloween Costume party at BMB program secretary Debora Botting's Ranch. Perfect weather, a medley of different cuisines and a life-size bon-fire made for a perfect time out with family and friends.
Summer BBQ 2007
BCSO had the annual BBQ cookout at Andy Chen's place in August this year. What better way to beat the summer heat than with BBQ and beer!
Game Night @ Main Event
BCSO's summer special for 2007 was the trip to Mainevent in Webster, Texas. This trip was attended by number of BMB students
and students from other departments as well which was a welcome surprise and not to mention a lot of fun.
Cirque du Soleil
On the 28th of April, the BCSO organized and sponsored a wonderful group outing to watch the Cirque du Soleil touring production called Corteo. Read on for Julie's account of the events.
Houston Rockets Basketball Game
The BCSO recently supported our students to go to Houston to watch a Houston Rockets basketball game. Check it out!
Indoor Rock Climbing
Recently, a few members tried their hands (and feet) and the sport of indoor rock climbing.
This challenging endeavor was well enjoyed by all in attendence.

Summer BBQ 2006
A BCSO member is currently writing an article about Summer BBQ for 2006. We all had
a great time and ate lots of tasty food. Many silly pictures were taken, too! Story and details to follow.

Hockey Night
Saturday April 1st 2006, the UTMB BCSO went to the Houston Toyota Center to watch the
Houston Aeros battle Peoria Rivermen. The students all had a great time & the Aero's
won, as well -- 5-0!
Paintball!
Sergio Santa Maria presents a small article about the joys of Paintball. Our group
went to Ultimate Paintball nearby in Dickinson, TX. As you can tell
by the photos and story -- folks had a great time.
The BCSO assists in paying for many student activities, including this one. BCSO members were treated to a deep discount for a full day of paintball fun!

Capitol Hill Day
A very special program that puts out graduate students in the thick of the top-level decision
making venues that affect all Biological Researchers. Our students visit with senators and other
decision makers with the intention of ensuring sound funding (NIH, usually) will continue. Biomedical
research enriches all of our lives and increased funding is a necessity.
Bowl For Kid's Sake
On April 12th, the BCSO participated in "Bowling for Kids Sake", a major annual fundraiser for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters mentoring program of Galveston County.
Our team raised over $330 dollars for Big Brothers, Big Sisters and had a fun time bowling and hanging out.
