The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has a faculty of more than 60 members, with research interests ranging from the fundamental principles of biology, biochemistry and biophysics to applied solutions to medically important problems. Among the disciplinary strengths of the department are cell, molecular and structural biology; biochemistry, and biophysics. Ranked among the top 20 biochemistry departments in external research funding nationwide, the department is exceptionally strong in research. State-of-the-art facilities include: X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, CryoEM, computational chemistry, fluorescence microscopy, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, DNA and protein sequencing and synthesis, gene cloning and protein expression, and transgenic mouse technology.
